Objective:

1.      To see the different type of rocks(igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks)

2.      To see different types of minerals if available

3.      To identify the reaction of the chemicals such as acids on the rocks layer

4.      To observe other geological features

Introduction

Geology is, broadly speaking, the study of the Earth. It is split into several disciplines, including Petrology (the study of rocks), Geophysics (the study of the Earth using physics), Palaeontology (the study of fossils) and Mineralogy (the study of minerals). The main aim of geology is to understand how the Earth works; how mountains are built, how the oceans form, what dinosaurs looked like. The Earth is constantly changing, both inside and outside. The atmosphere and water erode and weather rocks; the collision of continents builds mountain ranges; and new crust forms at the mid-ocean ridges. How do these processes relate to each other, and can we come up with a model to explain these things? Once we have such a model, the applications of geology become much simpler. Applications include the search for oil, gas, water and minerals; environmental studies; reconstructing the past environments of the Earth, which helps us with predicting the future.

Geology has been revolutionised by the introduction of the theory of plate tectonics. This theory explains a great deal of the things we see on the Earth's surface and helps a great deal when trying to fit the pieces together. It is plate tectonics which provides a model in which to put the details.

Conclusion

As we know that there are three types of rocks in the Earth, and we did conduct this trip to realize and check by our naked eyes these rocks.

In this trip, there were three stops and in each one of them lots of rocks have been observed, in conjunction with the varieties of these rocks in each stop, we took some symbols for the lab use.

We did add a few drops of chemicals such as HCL on some of the rocks fresh layers to check whether it will react or not, and the result was negative.

We did use the hummer to dig into the rock formation and to break the big rocks into small pieces that had been taken to the lab for further studies

We did use the magnifiers on the symbols that we took to identify the type of the layers of the rock and to describe the rock in general.
